In Game 3 of the playoff series between Chatham and Elgin-Middlesex, the Cyclones came away with the 4-3 win. It was a back and forth game. Neither team had complete control of the game which was won in the last minute. This was the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs last game of the season.
#83, Chatham Cyclones, ’02-Birth Year, Goalie, Brett Broshu:
Brett Broshu was definitely a stand out when back stopping his team to this win. He was calm and composed at all times. His movement around the net was quick and effective. He was able to arrive in position and set nearly all the time. Came up with two huge stops in a span of a minute on two separate rushes with excellent slides where he was in control of his body and didn’t have many holes. Also made a difference with his puck playing ability. Rushed out to the blueline to send the puck back up ice for a scoring chance.
#16, Chatham Cyclones, ’02-Birth Year, Forward, Aidan Stubberfield:
Was a consistently hard working player from the start of the game to the finish. Absolute hound on the forecheck who disrupts breakouts with his speed and the threat of his physicality. Was a threat in the offensive zone with good vision and puck handling capabilities. The type of player you want on your team in an elimination game like this.
#9, Chatham Cyclones, ’02-Birth Year, Forward, Cameron Symons:
Cameron Symons plays bigger than his size. He has good lower body strength which makes it difficult to push him off the puck. Has a good nose for the net and likes to push the play towards the net. His skating allows him to close the gap quickly on the puck carrier for a hard hit. Very good at timing his hits for maximum impact.
#39, Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, ’02-Birth Year, Forward, Rylan Bowers:
Rylan Bowers is a competitive and passionate player. He’s looks to make an impact every shift whether it’s an offensive contribution or through physical play. Bowers set up the first goal for Elgin with a near perfect pass on the rush cross-crease. He was the main driver of offense on his line as well. He has good edges along with good straight line speed.
#9, Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, ’02-Birth Year, Forward, Ian Babenko:
Ian Babenko was the best player offensively for Elgin-Middlesex. He showed high Hockey IQ in the offensive zone. He knew when to wait patiently with the puck to create a scoring chance. He knew he was at a size disadvantage so he was able to use his speed to get inside positioning on defenders. His skating ability also created many issues for defenseman trying to keep him in check. I liked his competitiveness as well which showed through when he blocked a shot in the last second of the 2nd period. Babenko ended the game with a goal and an assist.
#8, Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, ’02-Birth Year, Forward, Tyler Mosher:
Tyler Mosher is an offensively gifted player who has the skating skill that makes him hard to defend. Even with his size disadvantage he knew how to get inside positioning on bigger/stronger players. He has good hands and is able to make moves at speed. Likes to drive the net as well. Scored the 3rd Elgin goal on a nice play in front of the net where he stopped his own team’s shot when the goalie was committed to the butterfly and went around him to the open side.
